Introducing a CSA Bakery on Prince Edward Island

 Howdy Folks!

I have always enjoyed baking, but my introduction to the mysteries of bread baking started with a book from the library, when I was 9 years old. Weʼve been baking all our bread ever since, using local Organic grains that are stone-ground right into the baking bowl. You canʼt get whole wheat flour fresher than that!

I am excited to tell you that The Whole Grain Bakery will be expanding this year! All the baking will be done in a certified kitchen on our Maple Wood Farm. The Organic wheat we use will be ground & baked into delicious bread, buns, cookies, and granola, just a couple kilometers from the fields where it grew at Barnyard Organics! The honey used comes from our resident beekeeper - my brother. Other Organic grains will be coming from Speerville Flour Mills.

A grain kernel, has three parts, bran (antioxidants, fiber, & B vitamins), germ (B vitamins, proteins, minerals & healthy fats), and the endosperm (mainly carbohydrates). Conventional white flour contains only the endosperm. Conventional “whole wheat” flour has had most of the germ and bran removed. At The Whole-Grain Bakery you get the WHOLE grain, the nutrients, and fiber that your body needs to function properly.

We hope you will consider one of our bakery shares, based on the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) veggie box system. We are offering a Large bakery share, a Small bakery share, a Bread Only share, or a Custom share.

If you would like to enjoy the benefits of fresh, wholesome, whole-grain bakery products, vote with your food dollars for better food, nourishing food, sustainable agriculture, and local family farms.

Be sure to sign up early, the deadline is March 31, 2014.
